OGIEL Solar Suitcase Fund

The Office of Global Initiatives and Experiential Learning (OGIEL), in collaboration with We Share Solar suitcase program, launched a community engaged experiential learning initiative designed to illustrate the impact of sustainable living to high school, undergraduate and graduate students. The We Share Solar Suitcases are constructed by high school students from the city of Newark and deployed by teams of undergraduate and graduate students in rural communities with low resource educational and medical facilities.

To support the deployment, training, maintenance, and expansion of the solar suitcases in partner communities, hikers led by Clayton Walton, Executive Director of OGIEL, will embark on a 6-day expedition, climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro. With every step of the 50-mile hike, the avid hikers aim to raise awareness and funds vital for sustaining solar suitcases in underserved regions in the Global South.

Individuals and organizations alike are invited to partake in this journey. Your sponsorship will enable OGIEL to continue bringing light, empowering individuals with the tools for self sufficiency, and paving the way for a greener, more equitable future.
